Deciding An Election...By Coin Toss
As the Associated Press reports, a Florida city council race was determined by resort to a coin toss. The two candidates, G.P. Sloan and Richard Flynn, both received 689 votes. Flynn called heads, but alas, the coin landed as tails, and Sloan won the election. Fortunately, both candidates believed this method was fair.
One question:
Who gets to make the coin toss call? Do you need to draw lots to see who will draw lots? Florida's election law probably provides us with an answer. If I find one, I will post it here.
